Aims

In the Mathematics Department, we believe that every child has the ability to be numerate to a level that allows them to make the most of the opportunities that arise.
The mathematics curriculum details five strands of progression: Mathematical Processes and Applications; Number; Algebra; Geometry and Measures; and Statistics
Each strand is made up of knowledge, skills and understanding which need to be developed during the course, along with the core skills of Numeracy, Literacy and ICT.

At KS3, students will follow a strand that, based on their KS2 results, will ensure that their mathematical thinking and processes are developed at a rate that matches their ability.

At KS4, students will prepare for GCSE Maths at either Higher or Foundation level, depending upon teacher assessment and their KS3 performance. There is provision for students to switch between these entry levels based on their performance during the course.
