Business Studies

With the advent of globalisation, we aim to ensure that entrepreneurial skills are embodied by all students through our LEAP ethos.

The curriculum places large emphasis on offering experiences which add value to any student’s learning within this subject area. Therefore, upon completion our students are given two options: to work for an organisation or set up their own.

The curriculum is designed to ensure that all students (SEN, EAL, Disadvantage and those more able):

  • Gain cultural capital through exposure to current affairs, whilst building the capacity to confidently discuss and articulate their views through a substantive knowledge based on previous case studies they have encountered
  • Through dynamism within business, they will become adaptable and from class- based learning develop a broad range of transferable skills and useful knowledge in preparation for further study and/or working life
  • Become problem solvers by using their mathematical skills in a business context
  • Consider the rule of law, ethical and cultural issues arising from business decisions
  • Utilise words thus ensuring that they become business literate students
  • Develop an awareness and inspire a curiosity to know more about business which will enable creative thinking of business ideas
  • Develop lifelong skills that will enable them to enter the world of work and explore future pathways
  • Learn about corporate environments through a range of opportunities, competitions, and trips, enabling them to apply the skills they learn in the classroom

Students are world-ready and develop into global citizens

Through the enterprise curriculum, students will be transformed into leaders as global citizens. The curriculum will give them the skills required for them to become entrepreneurs and to function in the modern world.

Students develop critical thinking and excellent communication skills

Students will become critical thinkers and communicators, as they conduct research on various business organisations that will broaden their analytical skills, thus enabling them to then arrive at a decision on which business is most suited for them. They will also complete a school-based assessment that is evidence led.

Students experience a depth and mastery of subject-specific knowledge and skills

Students aspire to master a broad knowledge and understanding of the enterprise sector, and relevant transferable skills such as research, planning, problem-solving and communication. This will encourage learners to challenge themselves by applying knowledge learnt to complete financial statements and analyse key business practices which will enable them to see themselves as future entrepreneurs.

Students become lifelong and independent learners

Students are expected to persevere with the requisite business knowledge thus becoming lifelong learners. This broad knowledge will empower students to see the importance of businesses and how they shape an economy and allows government to make decisions that helps to improves householders' standard of living.
