Danson Water Sports Visit

The day started with a dull and misty weather and most of the students were a bit nervous and apprehensive as they were not sure what to expect. Despite fears  of falling in the water and rumours of sharks lurking in the lake,  they quickly overcame their  inhibitions to  have an experience of a life time at Danson Water Sports Park .

The activities involved canoeing, kayaking  and some water sports .  The first activity was to work together in pairs in a canoe to row across the lake. This gave them the opportunity to work effectively in pairs to demonstrate their leadership skills of listening to each other and working together. They really excelled at this task.

The next activity was geared towards developing team work. The students had to work together  as a group to row  along the lake while performing  challenges set by the instructor. Miss Buckley who  accompanied them was really impressed with their attitude and work ethic.

The final challenge was a test of perseverance and resilience, the students had to row on their own in a kayak.  Zoya needed some encouragement to get into the kayak but quickly overcame her fear, Callum by now had mastered the art of rowing and was off on his own, Addis required some coaching but she persevered and was soon rowing confidently.

Some feedback from the students – Zoya -  ‘I was scared at first but really enjoyed myself. I would like to do this every day'.  Calum- 'this is fun'! O shane - 'I really enjoyed myself'.

Callum, Mason, Daniel and O’shane showed great leadership skills. Omari,  Zion, Shahan showed great enquiry and aspiration.  Zoya, Omari and Addis demonstrated great perseverance by not giving up when they found it challenging.

Overall the students represented the Academy as true ambassadors and they should be applauded for their excellent behaviour and  determination to succeed.
