On World book day Kenny Imafidon gave an inspiring presentation of his memoir “That Peckham boy”. In conversation with book blogger John-Paul Kunrunmi he encouraged students to be proactive about their future and to have the confidence to shape their own stories. pic.twitter.com/MA76S4tivB

World Book Day Assembly - By Mr Lane

Watch Mr Lane's assembly for World Book Day 2021, Thursday 4th March. Find out how World Book Day relates to the British value of liberty. To hear the song played at the start of the assembly please click here.

Message from Niah: HAP's Student Head of English

When my mum and teachers first told me to pick up a book and read, my reaction was ambivalent. I saw no point in reading; books seemed so long and involved challenging vocabulary.

But now I see why.

Reading is something every successful person does. Your vocabulary grows, you learn new words and comprehension skills. I have many books now and I am proud to say that I have read almost all of them. If it wasn't for reading my academic progress would not have flourish like it has this year.

What I am reading Students (1)If you are not an avid read; why not have another go? Get your siblings excited. Dress up as a book character. Rekindle your love of books! Get reading!

I hope you enjoy Mr Lane's assembly. As mentioned, one task for World Book Day is to share what you are reading. Please fill in the first slide of the PowerPoint below with.

  • A picture of you reading/the author of your book.
  • A picture of you book.
  • Your name and year group.
  • Three original words to describe your book.

Click HERE to download the PowerPoint you need to complete.

Examples of what this can look like have been done by Mr Lane, Miss Evans, Cecilia and Megan our student Vice-Principal. Once done send your slide to j.lane@harrispeckham.org.uk and we will promote your reading through the website, Twitter and displays.

Do also note that World Book Day (4th March) will be a very different day. Feel free to dress up as fantasy characters from books at home and certainly enjoy your reading. There will be competitions in use of bedrock/reading and poetry.
