Introduction

The quality of teaching and learning within Academy College is excellent and courses offer a unique mixture of vocational and academic opportunities for students, ranging from a wide range of A Levels and BTEC First Diploma qualifications alongside hospitality and catering, through to Hairdressing and Motor Vehicle courses. Students studying vocational subjects undertake work experience with a range of local and national employers on a weekly basis, developing their skills in the working environment.
Many of the courses on offer build on work studied in year 11. Lots of support is available for students wishing to continue their education after Academy College and a high level of pastoral care and support will be provided throughout your time in Academy College.

Aims:
The sixth form at The Harris Academy at Peckham aims to provide high quality teaching and student support.

Moving onto the teaching of students at KS5 broadens our opportunities as a school to create a larger community of hard working and dedicated young people that others within the school should aspire to join.

Our expectations are that the majority of the sixth form students will go on to higher or further education. Our aim is to provide a broad and balanced education which will equip students with the abilities, confidence, and qualification to take their place in the adult environment.

The sixth form will be a place for many students to study locally but, more importantly, a place for students to experience the very best opportunities in all aspects of academic studies, their greater awareness of the world and, of course, themselves.

This induction guide will provide a checklist of topics which should be covered during the College Induction process. It is neither exclusive nor inclusive but it should introduce you to specific course and qualification issues and general College requirements.

It is intended that the handbook should be used actively and that you should sign at the end of each induction session to indicate that you have been involved and understood the information given.
