HAP Students Selected for Sutton Trust Summer Programme

PrinceHAP students Tegan and Prince (pictured) have been chosen to take part in a prestigious Sutton Trust Summer programme, which aims to challenge and motivate high-flying students and introduce them to the world of research-led academia.

Both students took part in independent research activities and virtual seminars and discussions to learn more about their chosen topics.

Prince transported himself back to Ancient Greece to learn about democracy, politics and government whilst Tegan donned her doctor’s scrubs to take part in an in-depth study of scarring and how doctors have used data and statistics to treat scarring.

“The sessions will help me be able to structure essays for exams and also help me to read a source and infer from it," said Prince. "It was really interesting and fun to learn about how politics worked back in Ancient Athens”.

Reflecting on her sessions, Tegan said: "It made me much more intrigued about how the body repairs itself and how to this day there is still a lot we cannot explain".

When they return in Year 11, both students will take part in frequent sessions where they will complete further academic reading and take part in discussions to help stretch their learning to prepare them for university.

The Sutton Trust is a charity that works to support social mobility in Britain. The trust fights for social mobility from birth to the workplace so that every young person has the chance to succeed in life. The programme was run in partnership with The Brilliant Club. Tegan and Prince are also part of our Harris Experience programme.
