Year 9 Perform at Mountview Drama School
Our Year 9 Drama students also took to the stage on Saturday 6th December, performing an ambitious and thought-provoking piece developed across five weeks with Mountview Drama School's Community and Education Masters students.
This partnership gave Year 9 the opportunity to experiment with devising and exploring complex social themes, working alongside professional practitioners in a truly inspiring creative process.
Their piece began with the discovery of a mysterious time capsule, an object that transported the ensemble through the past, present and future. Each time shift opened new questions about the world we live in, encouraging students to investigate how society has changed, and in many ways, how it hasn’t.

In the past, the group uncovered early warnings about climate change, recognising that concerns raised in the 1960s mirror those of today, highlighting the troubling reality that, despite decades of awareness, meaningful action remains limited.
In the future, they imagined a world shaped by AI and robotics, questioning what humanity might lose if technology replaces connection, creativity and human purpose.

Across time periods, the piece also explored the evolution of technology, the ongoing fight for gender and racial equity, and the responsibilities young people hold as the next generation of changemakers.
Their storytelling was bold, intelligent and emotionally resonant. Year 9 moved seamlessly between comedic moments, physical theatre, ensemble sequences and reflective scenes, demonstrating impressive maturity and deep engagement with the themes.

They were amazing, professional, imaginative, committed, and utterly captivating from beginning to end. Their curiosity, teamwork and courage on stage were a joy to witness, and they represented Harris Academy Peckham with pride and excellence.
