Lead Students Shine at Youth Summit
Christianah, our Head Student (left), and Roihanna, Deputy Head Student (right), were delighted to take part in an inspiring Youth Summit this month – a day dedicated to amplifying young voices and shaping ideas for the future of Peckham.
The event opened with a warm welcome and introduction from Miatta Fahnbulleh, the MP for Peckham (pictured centre), who set the tone for a thoughtful and energising day. Her opening remarks encouraged students to speak honestly, work collaboratively, and feel confident that their voices matter.
This was followed by a powerful listening session, where young people shared their experiences of growing up in Peckham. Students spoke openly about their community, the changes they have witnessed, and the improvements they would most like to see. It was an empowering space that placed young people firmly at the centre of the conversation.
Next, participants took part in a creative group activity, working in teams to respond to a given brief. Students were encouraged to think imaginatively and present their ideas in any format they chose. The results were impressive – ranging from short speeches to creative performances – and demonstrated confidence, collaboration, and originality.
The summit concluded with closing reflections and next steps, allowing students to reflect on what they had learned and how their ideas could help influence positive change within their community.
Overall, the Youth Summit was a fantastic experience for our lead students, highlighting their leadership, creativity, and commitment to making a difference.
