Personal Development Overview

At Harris Academy Peckham, we believe that personal development is as crucial as academic success. Our commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals is reflected in our personal development curriculum, which is designed to equip students with the skills, values, and mindset needed to thrive in the modern world.

We ensure that every student is given the opportunity to grow both inside and outside the classroom. At Harris Academy Peckham we do this by focusing on:

  • Character Education: Building strong moral and ethical values through topics within our PSHE and RSHE curriculum.
  • Social Skills: Fostering effective communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities through our extensive enrichment offer.
  • Emotional Well-being: Promoting mental health awareness and resilience through our personal development curriculum and pastoral structure.
  • Cultural Awareness: Encouraging appreciation and respect for diversity and inclusivity, through our assemblies, tutor programme and LEAP Days.
  • Physical Health: Emphasising the importance of physical fitness and healthy lifestyles through our extensive physical education curriculum and enrichment offer.

Programmes and activities

We offer a wide range of programmes and activities to support personal development, including:

  • Mentorship and Guidance: Personalised guidance and support from experienced mentors to help our students navigate their academic and personal lives.
  • Enrichment Activities: A variety of clubs spanning across STEM, art and musical theatre, sports, and journalism that allow students to explore their interests and talents.
  • Workshops and Visitors: Planned workshops and visits on topics such as mental health, career planning, post +16 qualifications and leadership skills.
  • Student Leadership Opportunities: Platforms for students to take on leadership roles and make meaningful contributions to the school community.

Support systems

To ensure that every student receives the support they need, we provide:

  • Counselling Services: Access to professional counsellors for emotional and psychological support.
  • Peer Support Groups: Encouraging peer-to-peer support through structured group activities and interventions.
