Choir tour to Swansea

On Saturday 16th December, our Chamber Choir performed at the prestigious Dunvant Male Choir Christmas Concert in Swansea. This evening was the culmination of many weeks of hard work and dedication from the choir. They performed four pieces to an exceptional level and Omotola Noble performed as a soloist with her outstanding version of ‘Oceans’. The choir and Omotola received standing ovations from a full St Mary’s Church in Swansea and received amazing feedback following the concert. The evening ended with our Chamber Choir joining forces with Dunvant Male Choir and soprano soloist Celine Forest in a moving rendition of ‘O Holy Night’. We have since received emails of praise from members of the audience.

“The Chamber choir were superb. They were beautifully behaved and the standard of their singing was unbelievable. They all seemed so happy and they managed to transfer the true meaning of Christmas to everyone in the congregation. They received a standing ovation and fully deserved.” Mrs Jones

The performance formed part of a three day choir tour that the students thoroughly enjoyed! We went bowling and ice skating (to varying degrees of success…!) and visited Swansea’s Waterfront Winterland. The day after the concert we visited the beautiful Oxwich Bay for a blast of fresh Welsh air and then had a choir Christmas dinner. The choir delighted the other diners with an impromptu performance of ‘Soon and Very Soon’ to help everyone get into the Christmas spirit.

We returned on Sunday evening, tired, but excited and the students were still singing on the minibus as we came back through the Academy gates! The students loved the experience. Deborah Akinyosoye in Year 11 said “As my first experience of performing in a concert outside of the Academy, it was unreal! We had a great time and really strengthened our bond as a group. Performing with Dunvant Male Choir and Celine Forest made me feel like a professional singer – I can’t wait for the next time!”
