A Poem by Joselina: "This Hate Inside Me Will Not Conquer Me"

Joselina is one our Spanish students, who wanted to express her feelings of solidarity with the black community. Miss Morales from our EAL team has also translated the poem into Spanish. Picture by Anisa.

Black people really matter because of equality, no matter where we are from we are equal.

When I saw what happened to other black people over the past weeks; I felt disgusted.  

But this hate inside of me will not conquer me like it conquered George Floyd’s killer.  

I want peace. I want justice.  

I want peace and justice for black people.   

Peace and justice will not happen for all people until there is peace and justice for black people. 

We all want justice for George Floyd and those before him.

Las personas negras realmente importan si es igualdad, no importa de dónde seamos, todos somos iguales.

Cuando vi lo que le pasó a otras personas negras en las semanas pasadas, me sentí disgustada. 

Pero este odio dentro de mí no me conquistará como conquistó al asesino de George Floyd. 

Yo quiero paz. Yo quiero justicia. Yo quiero paz y justicia para la gente negra. 

Paz y justicia no sucederá para todas las personas hasta que haya paz y justicia para la comunidad negra. 

Todos queremos justicia para George Floyd y para todos aquellos antes de él.
