Federation Egg Race

The infamous Federation Egg Race  was held on Friday, 3rd July 2015 at Harris Academy Crystal Palace. All Harris Academies were invited to attend and bring six Key Stage 3 students along to compete.

Egg race gives students the opportunity to compete against other Harris Academies in a range of Design and Technology subjects—Food Catering, Textiles Technology and Resistant Materials based activities. The tasks and content remains top secret until the day!

The winners take away the accolade of being crowned champions and the prestigious 'Egg Race' trophy to display for the year.

Harris Academy Peckham went along with six students: Olayinka Aresa and Alexander Oke competing in the Food Catering category,  Marvellous Afamefune  and  Macdonald Mide-Madariola —Textiles Technology and finally in Resistant Materials Alassan Bangura   and Siobhan Bangura .

The Textiles Technology brief was to design and make a carnival bunting with LED lights.  Students were provided with all materials, guidelines, instructions and resources to make the buntings with flickering lights.  Their final design needed to represent their school.

Harris Academy Peckham students worked well as a team and overall were placed 4th. All students  thoroughly enjoyed the day at Harris Crystal Palace and would like to extend their appreciation for the excellent hospitality from Harris Crystal Palace. Macdonald Mide-Madariola later said, ‘We intend to work much harder next year to lift the trophy, watch out Harris Bermondsey who won.

The Food task: The brief was to design and make a range of products to sell at a fayre.  The products must be decorated and influenced by the carnival theme.  Students were assessed on appearance, creativity, theme link, taste, consistency of the product and design work.

The Resistant Materials task: To design and make a canister to propel a small table tennis ball to hit the provided targets. Alassan and Siobhan Bangura  represented this group by creating an innovative canister to propel a ball.

Harris Academy Peckham students worked well as a team and overall were placed 4th.
