Year 8 students attended creative workshops run by Theatre Peckham. As well as developing their literacy and communication skills, students worked on a project which culminated in a play which they wrote and performed to an audience. We thank Peckham for hosting pic.twitter.com/kCUjRWBaBe

Chess Tournament at Harris Morden

On Wednesday 15th July, 5 Key Stage 3 aspiring Chess Grand Masters travelled to Harris Academy Morden to take part in the annual Federation Chess Tournament. The format of the tournament featured a group stage comprising upwards of 50 students before competitors were whittled down to the final 8. The early matches saw the team from Peckham up against some stiff competition, and a number of tightly fought matches went against us. However, our students showed excellent resilience to come back into the tournament with a number of battled draws and comprehensive wins. A victory against an unbeaten player from Purley paved the way for a string of successive victories, and after an ignominious start, each of our students finished the day with at least a 50% win record from their matches. Unfortunately, time restrictions on the day meant that not everyone managed to complete their full set of matches and it was disappointing to hear that none of our students had made it to the quarter-final knockout stage. All of Yuxin He, Kieu Nhi Vu, Ihtirum Syed-Hussain, Alex Yu Xuan, and Chengzhi Li conducted themselves superbly, being gracious in both victory and defeat, and were an absolute credit to the Academy.
