23 May 2025Learning and Leaping: Year 11s Take Studies Outdoors on PGL TripI’ve never seen so much excitement at 6am. Suitcases rolled and students trekked through the Academy doors to aboard coaches to our much-awaited destination: PGL Marchants Hill! Seats selected and playlists poised, we set off in anticipation. The plan was agreed: half of the group would revise much needed GCSE subjects in the mornings, whilst the other half would participate in high energy, outdoor activities- then everyone would swap in the afternoons. Stepping off, we all set to work with glee- it was hard not to, whilst being surrounded with such greenery and high ropes! Thrill seekers were in their element, climbing the trapeze and Jacob’s Ladder, whilst squeals of “Get me down!” via Ayman, were enough to elicit roars of laughter- the perfect tonic for such a crucial, crunch time of GCSE studies. Communal food and games time were enjoyed just as much. The vast salad bar was much appreciated by all, whilst the hot food options were devoured by the plateful. Miss Evans’ ‘Knowledge Gladiators’ on the field was a personal highlight: here we really observed the hard work that all of year 11 had put into their studies; eagerly completing knowledge quizzes on various subject areas. Team games came after and once the sun began to set, it was time to head inside and get acquainted with the dormitories. Showers, unpacking and a little bit of downtime before lights were off and we were all able to rest….. or so we thought. A midnight fire alarm was most unexpected but being the brilliant group they were, everyone settled quickly and thoughts of the following day, sent us to dreamland. What a fantastic experience!

21 May 2025Students Lead 'Secondary Ready' AssembliesOn 20th May some of our students stepped into leadership roles as they delivered a series of ‘Secondary Ready’ assemblies to local primary schools—an initiative designed to support Year 5 and 6 pupils as they prepare for the exciting transition to secondary school. The assemblies, led entirely by our students, focused on building confidence, curiosity, and a sense of readiness among younger learners. Through personal stories, interactive activities, and practical advice, our student leaders offered a warm and relatable introduction to life at secondary school. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to student leadership and community engagement, giving our students the chance to develop public speaking, mentoring, and teamwork skills while making a meaningful impact beyond the school gates. Ms Bergin, Principal, shared, “We are incredibly proud of our students for stepping up and representing Harris Academy Peckham with such maturity and enthusiasm. They are true role models.” We look forward to continuing this partnership with our local primary schools and supporting the next generation of learners as they take their next big step.

The event was a celebration of student voice, creativity, and ambition. Our students showcased their projects in a professional setting —standing proudly in the same halls that have hosted masterpieces and historic collections. 30 April 2025Year 10 Explore Art and Activism on Exhibition TripYear 10 art and design students made the trip to Peckham Levels to experience art in the local community. Hosted by Never Such Innocence, a charity that gives children and young people a voice on conflict through the creative arts, our students had the chance to see an exhibition based around the themes of social, climate, and racial justice. Students took their time to make considered notes on the artworks as they looked around the space. One of our students, Keera said ‘It was interesting to see the different styles of artwork that was on display, it showed me how the topic of social injustices could be explored and addressed in different ways.’ Following the viewing of the exhibition, students then took part in an activity that our student Juan Carlos described as ‘based around different social problems. The hosts of the trip gave us different statements relating to social issues and we had to stand on different sides of the room depending on whether we agreed or disagreed.’ This was an interesting task that highlighted conversations that can be had around social, climate and racial issues. Speaking about the artwork shown in the exhibition, Juan Carlos found that ‘Generally, the artwork conveyed anger, as each piece spoke about the current state of the planet, and for me the anger comes from issues where we could do better.’ Georgia said ‘I particularly enjoyed seeing one piece that was of a jellyfish. I think this piece was a reference to climate change, as well as the pollution of the oceans. Seeing the artwork there opened my eyes to how we can use art to speak about social issues and make powerful statements.’ The students then took part in a workshop where they, in groups, created collages around the theme of social injustice, the session concluded with one student form each group presenting their work to the rest of the class. Joseph, Keera, Juan Carlos and Jeremi all did a fantastic job of articulating their ideas. Thank you, Never Such Innocence, for inviting us to your exhibition and workshop!

29 April 2025Students' Cardiff Adventure at the Wales Millennium CentreFrom the moment they arrived the students embarked on an unforgettable weekend of creativity, performance, and discovery at the iconic Wales Millennium Centre. On Friday 25th April after checking in at the Urdd accommodation, the group headed to the Millennium Centre for an exciting behind-the-scenes tour. They explored the architecture and rich history of this world-renowned venue before diving straight into rehearsals for their upcoming performance. The evening continued with a group dinner, creating a chance to bond and relax before meeting again to attend a stunning performance of Swan Lake, an inspiring and magical start to their weekend. Saturday kicked off with a hearty breakfast at the Urdd before returning to the Centre for a technical rehearsal. As other young participants arrived, the morning flowed into a lively social session with snacks, setting a welcoming tone for the day. In the afternoon, students participated in a Theatre and Wellbeing workshop led by facilitators from Mountview, focusing on creativity, confidence, and self-care. Meanwhile, a Career Carousel offered a unique opportunity to explore different creative industry roles through fast-paced, skill-sharing workshops. After some well-deserved chill-out time, featuring VR headsets, DJ equipment, and games, everyone gathered for dinner, before the evening celebrations truly began. The night’s programme was packed: starting with an inspiring introduction, speeches, and a celebration video, followed by a curtain raiser performance titled How Do We Know What We Know? by HAP students. Students then enjoyed a high-energy DJ set from DJ Larynx, before watching the acclaimed production Key Change. The night closed with a Directors' Q&A and a silent disco in the Millennium Centre's grand foyer, the perfect end to an electrifying day. Sunday began with breakfast in the Centre's Cabaret Space, setting the scene for a day of reflection and creativity. Valleys Kids led a lively warm-up and evaluation session, helping students process the weekend’s experiences. They then took part in Creative response workshops, crafting their own artistic reactions to the weekend’s themes. An exciting highlight was that students from Harris Academy Peckham had the opportunity to record interviews with each other about their experiences in Wales. These recordings were later broadcast on the Millennium Centre’s own award-winning radio station, Radio Platform, giving the students a real taste of media production and public storytelling. After lunch, goodbyes, leaving Cardiff filled with inspiration, new skills, and unforgettable memories.

25 April 2025Students Shine at Barbican Centre with Massed Orchestra PerformanceOn Wednesday 23rd April our students took to the stage at the prestigious Barbican Centre. As part of the massed orchestra organized by the Music in Secondary Schools Trust (MiSST), our young musicians had the unique opportunity to perform in one of the most renowned concert venues in the world. The atmosphere was electric as the students, alongside many other talented young musicians, delivered a captivating performance. The event was not just about showcasing their musical talents but also about the joy and camaraderie that comes from playing together in such a grand setting. Every student had a fantastic time, thoroughly enjoying the experience of making music with their peers. The smiles on their faces and the applause from the audience were testaments to the hard work and dedication they put into their craft. This unforgettable experience will undoubtedly inspire our students to continue pursuing their musical passions and striving for excellence. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing where their musical journeys will take them next. Congratulations to all the performers and a heartfelt thank you to MiSST for organizing this wonderful event!

3 April 2025Ergonomics workshopYear 10 students learnt about ergonomics and collected anthropometric data on their hand. They then assembled robotic arms and used them completed several challenges such as building towers, transporting items of various size and weight from one location to the next.

31 March 2025Year 8 King's ScholarsYear 8 King's Scholars had an exciting workshop day! They practiced suturing bananas and designed 3D containers to protect eggs in an engineering workshop. In the law workshop, they learned about basic law and argued cases as barristers. Future engineers & lawyers in the making!
